The Rinx Summer Program

What does it take?

You know you have always wanted to do it. Becoming a Scuba diver can lead to a lifetime of adventure – going to great places and meeting interesting people.

So what does it take? Learning to dive is a three step process. The first two steps are going to be offered at the Rinx on Tuesdays from 6 to 10 PM.

Step one - know everything that you need to be a safe and comfortable diver. We will be doing this with our academic review sessions from 6 to 7 PM. If you can not join us for the review sessions you can use our computer home study kit. Knowledge is power when it comes to diving. Having the knowledge to make good decision make you safer and makes diving what it is suppose to be – fun.

Step two - water skills. What are the skills you need to be a safe diver? During our many hours of water time - 7 to 10 PM - you will have the time to develop the skill you need. Our Scuba program includes four 3 hour pool sessions. The pool at the Rinx is perfect for learning with a 13 foot deep diving pool.

We supply everything you need for the pool sessions. You do not have to purchase any equipment. All needed equipment is supplied: mask, fins, snorkel, tank, air in tank, regulator, buoyancy compensator, alternate air source, wet suit and weights.

During the pool sessions you will learn the skills that go into safe and comfortable diving. Each pool class is carefully organized to help you to be a safe diver.

Step three in becoming a Scuba diver is to go diving. Once you have completed your academic and pool sessions you are ready to go on the open water part of our training. Here you are giving the chance to go on real dives (4 dives over 2 days) under the watchful eye of an instructor. Skills learned in the pool are applied to real dives. What better way to complete your training to be a Scuba diver. Now that you know what it takes, you can read about the details and start you Scuba diving adventure.

Here are the details. Our program at the Rinx is open to anyone age 12 and above. This program will get you through the first two steps. You can be on your way to becoming a diver by joining one of our two Rinx programs being offered this Summer. Program one starts July 3 and meets - July 3, 10, 17 and 24. Program two starts July 31 and meets - July 31, August 7, 14 and 21. The cost of the program includes: (1) all instruction (2) student academic kit - which includes: text book, log book, dive tables, outline book, deluxe log book and carry case (3) use of all Scuba equipment in the pool.

For the third step, doing your open water dives, you have two options. One way to do your open water dives for your Scuba certification could be done with a referral letter from Tiedemann’s Diving Center. This letter will let you do your dives with an instructor when you go away on a vacation. This could be Florida, Islands in the Caribbean or Pacific just about anywhere in the world. We can even help you to set up your trip. The cost of a referral letter is free.

The other option would be to join us on a Dutch Springs Weekends. We do our open water dives for certification at an underwater park – Dutch Springs – in Bethlehem Pennsylvania.

We make a little mini weekend vacation going to a place where we know that we will have decent visibility and interesting things to dive on. We have a separate flyer with all the details and expenses. The dates for our Dutch Springs 2007 weekend this Summer are: July 28 & 29. And August 25 & 26. We will also have an early Fall Dutch Springs weekend on September 29 & 30.

Now you know the details your ready to start your Scuba diving adventure.
