question. We all want to believe that we can handle the problems that life can
give us from time to time. A medical emergency can be one of those problems that
life can give us - whether we are ready or not. As part of our overall commitment
to the best in SCUBA instruction, we are offering a certification course that
combines Adult CPR, AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and
First Aid for Adults on a regular basis.
An AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) is a device about the size of a laptop computer that analyzes the heart's rhythm for any abnormalities and, if necessary, directs the rescuer to deliver an electrical shock to the victim. Training in CPR and AED skills will enable the rescuer to use all the steps in the cardiac chain of survival, thereby significantly increasing the victim's chance of survival.
Adult
CPR
Adult CPR training complements a variety of learning styles with
hands-on practice and real-life scenarios. Take-away materials help
employees retain skills and serve as reference tools in an emergency.
Combining lecture, video demonstrations and hands-on manikin training, this
course teaches participants to: Call and work with EMS, Perform CPR and care
for breathing and cardiac emergencies, Avoid bloodborne pathogens exposure,
Know the role of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in the Cardiac
Chain of Survival. In addition, students learn how to use an AED on a
victim of sudden cardiac arrest.
Automatic
External Defibrillators (AED)
This course represents entry-level training designed to educate the general
diving (and qualified non-diving) public to better recognize the warning
signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and administer first aid using Basic Life
Support techniques and Automated External Defibrillators while activating
the local emergency medical services, (EMS) and / or arranging for
evacuation to the nearest appropriate medical facility.
First Aid for Adults
This course combines lectures, demonstrations and video with
hands-on training and practice. Participants in this course learn to
recognize and respond to emergencies including shock, cardiac and breathing
emergencies for adults, heat and cold emergencies,
sudden illnesses and poisonings.
Some
of the topics covered during these courses include: Emergency First Aid Care,
Recognizing an Emergency, Deciding to Help, Personal Safety - Using
Barriers, Mechanism for Spinal Injury
Activating Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Basic Life-Supporting Skills,
Breathing – Ventilations Mask/Shield, Circulation – Chest Compressions, CPR
for Cardiac Arrest, Sudden Cardiac Arrest – Using an AED, Control of
Bleeding, Managing Shock, Choking, Mechanism for Significant Injury,
Specific First Aid Problems, Moving Patients, Emotional Impact of Providing
First Aid Care, and much more.
This
3-course program takes about 6 hours and meets for 2 weeknights or one
Saturday. This is the training that will give you the
peace of mind that comes from knowing what to do - if there is a problem.
Take the time to learn. Show that you care. Don't stand by someday and watch as someone you could have helped suffers or even dies. These are skills that everyone should know. Do yourself a favor and bring a friend. They may be able to help you someday.
This course is required for Rescue Diver and Master Diver certification.

of the class will receive the BasicPlus CPR, AED, and First Aid for Adults
Student Guide, a BasicPlus Successful Completion Card and a
Wallet Skill Guide Card.
